This is a great mouse with fantastic feel. However, it is not truly set up for a mac. You can still use it, but you cannot upload the drivers which mean you lose a lot of the configurable features.
purchased this mouse based on a review and i have to say it has lived up to its repuation it is a very good mouse very responsive and i have been nothing but pleased easy to install works great with world of warcraft and for everyday use i recomend this mouse for anyone looking for a great gaming mouse
For me this is far preferable, because I use middle click a lot, and I use the clicky style exclusively for games but flywheel otherwise so it works out. I found the wide grip very comfortable, with excellent choice in material. It's not nearly as large as a G5/G7, so some might not like that. So, you keep the middle click in exchange for not being able to switch styles on the fly. This has to be the biggest steal I've ever seen, but even at 50 dollars its an amazing purchase. Another huge plus is that you can bind keystrokes to mouse buttons in each profile, and again its saved on board. On most logitech mice you switch this by pushing in the wheel. To be specific, you only need the set point software to set up the mouse the way you want.
After that, it works perfectly on its own. Further more, you can actually store 5 different profiles on the mouse, and switch on the fly. However the hardware works perfectly, the software works perfectly, and they are both incredibly customizable. I like a heavy mouse; with the heaviest weights in the mouse has a very solid and smooth feel to it when its moving.
Here, there is a button on the bottom to switch mouse wheel styles. As noted before, the mouse wheel can be free spinning or clicky. With two separate grips, a weight cartridge, the ability to control LED colour, and the ability to control mouse wheel style, it has an unprecedented number of hardware customization options. You will need Windows to run the software once though, but even if you don't dual-boot getting one time access to Windows is pretty trivial in my mind. Some of its unique features suit me exceptionally well, so I will get into some specifics in this review. The mouse looks and feels great. This is great if you use Linux like me because all your settings on DPI's and buttons work perfectly. Convenient, but you lose your middle click which is annoying.
I'm used to the 2000 DPI G5; I found the 3200 here excessively high. Not only is this perfect for games, but it also means that you never have to deal with getting Linux to "see" a mouse button again. Simply put, this is by far the most impressive mouse I've ever seen. By choosing different LED colours for each one, you can see what mode your mouse is in at a glance. Each profile is completely independent in terms of DPI settings, buttons, everything. Just bind the button to some weird keystroke combination and you can use it as a shortcut anywhere, zero hassle. This mouse is simply one of the most polished electronic products I've ever seen.
However I am currently using it at 2600 and its quite amazingly precise and fun to use.The software is incredible because. With the mail in rebate that was available until recently, I got this mouse at just 30 dollars. Ultimately mouse comfort depends on your hand size and shape, and since this is very personal you should take all comments about comfort in reviews with a grain of salt. However, mouse shape and size is one area where you can never please everyone so this can't be held against Logitech. As to the actual DPI tracking of the mouse, its excellent. you don't need the software.
If I had to make one negative comment, it is that I would like the mouse to be a bit bigger. Five stars, hands down.
Anything more than that and it's a gamble. I didn't experience this to my previous MS intellipoint mouse and that was $19.99 + in store coupon. The fabric coated mouse cord at first seemed like a luxury, I said, wow they really pulled out all the stops.but in reality it starts to fray after much usage as well as collect dust a lot more noticably than normal cord. All in all, it's had a lot of potential, the G9 gaming mouse reminds me of a really slick, expensive, dispoable item.
There's even sexy LED lights that you can change depending on the profile you've programmed. So why a 3 and not 5 stars.Because the pro's outweight the con's for me.They advertise there's 100 different LED colors that you can choose, yes this is true however the difference between those 100 LED colors is hardly a difference but more like a dimmer or brighter version of the 15 main colors from the menu. The G9 mouse at a glance looks like the ultimate gaming mouse, it has tons of customizble features, interchangable cases, and programmable buttons.
A more ergonomic mouse will take the strain of your mouse hand just not as pretty as this mouse. If I could only have 5 different colors to choose from, I'd take that easily for a decent price cut.The more slick and comfortable of the 2 interchangable cases has a thin plastic film over it, once you scratch that, it'll start to peel like you had a sunburn.
That really doesn't impress your friends or make you smile when you feel the coating peeling under your hand. It's not fitted for everyone, after long usage I've experienced discomfort in my hand and pink. The hefty price tag for mouse technology that will be overshadowed by another version makes it less than.vs greater than.If you can get it for $49.99 or less, it might be worth it.
3 Stars.
I'll keep this short. I have large hands and the larger of the 2 casings fit perfectly. Not bothering to debug this further.
I purchased it in December 08 and it started going in May. I love Logitech mice so this surprised me. This is the first logitech mouse that has gone bad on me since the days of non-optical non-laser mice.
Just bought an Mx518 to replace it (going back to optical). Gaming use was moderate, but the braided cord started to fray and I'm getting 'skipping' in the reads from any horizonal movement of the mouse. Could be cord, could be another HW issue.
I have an Mx510 that is still working fine on my older gaming pc.One addition, while it was working correctly I can say that I loved the mouse. I also found the mouse very responsive and liked the ability to change settings on the fly.reliability is my only concern and prompted the writing of this comment.
